CHAMBER12NETWORKING—Fun and festivity reigned at the Chamber’s holiday-themed AfterHours hosted by The Royal Sea Cliff Kona and The Fish Hopper Seafood and Steaks.

Against an ocean backdrop at the Royal Sea Cliff’s pool area, members enjoyed networking, pupus, entertainment and the Chamber’s fundraising auction.

In addition, the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Gift Drive, collecting toys, food, clothing and money for Family Support Hawai‘i.

Upon arrival, attendees participated in a question game, finding answers by visiting three condo units and getting different treats along the way. At the first stop, partygoers viewed a two-bedroom Wyndham timeshare unit and enjoyed pupus and shots of red and green-colored cocktails. Next was an Outrigger one-bedroom available for visitor rentals and serving rum-laced egg nog followed by an Outrigger studio wafting of just-backed gingerbread that was complemented by hot cider. After completing all the questions, forms were turned in and winners were drawn to earn overnighters at the sprawling, seaside property.

The Royal Sea Cliff is a mixed-use property consisting of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units that offers either garden, ocean view or oceanfront locations. Situated on a lava rock bluff, guests enjoy panoramic ocean views from spacious lanais.

Amenities include two swimming pools, tennis court, CHAMBER18barbecue areas, courtyard with a cascading stream and tropical gardens. The property’s neatly shaped banyan trees are a hallmark along Ali‘i Drive.

“We are a convenient and great place to send your visiting friends for very competitive rates,” suggested Royal Sea Cliff GM Carol Hanna.

Hanna and Assistant GM Gary Correia oversee a Hawaii Vacation Rentals by Outrigger program consisting of 48 units, a Wyndham Vacation Ownership timeshare program consisting of 76 units and the Master Homeowners Association.

There are 30 privately owned units that are either rented by their owners or occupied full time. Hanna and Correia are assisted by Rosie Wroten, front office manager; Kani Copp, executive housekeepe; Kim Miranda, accounting; John Caravalho, chief engineer and Brett Thudium, maintenance supervisor.

CHAMBER25In between the game and networking, Chamber members were invited to bid on a silent auction stocked with activities and merchandise. The auction is the Chamber’s annual fundraiser and showcases local goods and services. Mahalo to the many KKCC members who donated items for the auction and those who took them home!

AfterHours co-host The Fish Hopper offered a buffet line serving steaming bowls of award-winning clam chowder, barbecue ribs with rice, ceviche with chips and Molokai haupia sweet potato pie. In addition, the Royal Sea Cliff offered an array of Chinese delicacies: egg rolls, noodles and manapua. Fish Hopper GM Sam Johnson said the restaurant was named “Best Seafood of West Hawai‘i” in 2015 and 2016 and the menu caters to everybody with both steak and seafood offerings. The Fish Hopper is active in the community and involved with Habitat for Humanity and the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign.

Located in the former Ocean View Inn building since 2007, Johnson said the restaurant has a staff of 77 and will be undergoing a remodeling project in 2017 to add an upper level. “January 3 is our 10-year anniversary,” he added.

The first After Hours of 2017 is at the Mauna Kea Resort Wednesday, Jan. 18. Sign-up online at or phone 329-1758.
