Posted in January 2017

Kirstin-Art-BirchSTRENGTHENING THE ECONOMY—Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole welcomed new arrivals from Haneda, Japan, December 16. Departing Hawaiian Airlines passengers were adorned with lei upon their arrival.

With tourism being the island’s largest industry, the re-establishment of Kona International Airport (KOA) as an international gateway is a boost for the local economy. Hawaiian Airlines is the first U.S. commercial airline to regularly fly international visitors to Kona since 2010 and has been a major competitor in the U.S. – Japan market.

The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commece would like to give thanks to KKCC’s board members, the Chamber’s Economic Development Committee and of course, the membership, who supported KOA in re-establishing its international designation.
